About Shotback

Shotback is a small, independent app — built and supported by one developer, not a big company with a call center.

It exists because losing photos is awful, and the usual recovery apps meet that moment with cluttered interfaces, constant upsells, and yearly subscriptions. Losing your photos is bad enough. Getting them back shouldn't feel like a fight.

So Shotback does one thing and tries to do it kindly: it recovers photos and videos from SD and memory cards, USB sticks, and external hard drives and SSDs. You download it, scan for free, and see every photo it can bring back before you decide to pay. One price, once. No account, no subscription.

How it works, plainly

When you delete a photo or format a card, the photo data usually stays on the card or drive for a while — only the list of files is gone. Shotback reads the card or drive block by block, recognizes the shape of photo and video files (JPEG, HEIC, RAW, MP4, and so on), and rebuilds them. It reads only; it never writes to your card or drive, so scanning can't make things worse.

It also won't overpromise. Some things genuinely can't be recovered — photos deleted from your Mac's own drive, encrypted cards, or files that have already been overwritten — and Shotback tells you that up front rather than after you've paid.
